About Hope Hub

Hope Hub is based in Levin (Taitoko). We work out of the Hope Centre Church in Kent St, Levin.

We are a small team of staff and volunteers who are committed to serving our community.

We have a Christian Kaupapa to serve and love our community, freely giving what we can to those who need it in our community.

Hope Hub is committed to reducing food waste by rescuing surplus from food donors and redistributing to the Horowhenua community via ‘freestore’ days and ‘pop up’ shops.

We not only run a ‘free store’, but we are also the ‘hub’ for the Horowhenua region, which means we receive food from the New Zealand Food Network (NZFN) and distribute/share to other social agencies in our community.

We also hold an MSD contract to distribute Isolation Food Parcels to those unwell and isolating at home with COVID.

Our aim is to work with food businesses and minimize (eliminate) food waste of perfectly edible food. Food that cannot be distributed can be fed to pigs or composted. We all need to do our part in creating a ‘zero waste’ society.

Recently Hope Hub became a member of the Aotearoa Food Rescue Alliance (AFRA), who play a major role in supporting ‘food rescue’ organisations around the country. AFRA work closely with MSD and also major supermarkets and are also committed to reducing food waste.
